Pre-Order FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

1) What is a pre-order?

A pre-order is a special offer to allow you to order a product during the final development phase, usually just before it goes into production. This helps to fund a part of the production and in return, you can be one of the first/only to receive the product when it is ready.
Some products may be limited to pre-order only, becoming collectible items. Others may then become on-going products, and some may continue to be made, with a significant price increase, once I've been able to calculate the true cost of producing them.

 2) When will my product be shipped?

The shipping estimate is stated on the pre-order page for each product.
Please understand though that there are many, many factors involved in the timing and even a small change or enhancement to the product specification can sometimes cause a delay of a few weeks for pre-order products.
In case you are in a hurry, then please wait until the product is out of pre-order and in stock before placing an order.
In case of a change in timing, I will usually send you an email to let you know but I do sometimes get sudden spikes at my "dayjob" which may keep me flat out for a few days at a time. You are most welcome to mail me at any time to check on things.

 3) What if I change my mind, can I get a refund?

YES.
For all pre-order product orders, you can change your mind anytime prior to shipping.
Simply send me an email or use the contact form and I will be happy to send you a full refund.

 4) What if the specification or design changes?

Because the pre-orders may start before the final production version of a product is ready, it is possible that there could be a slight change in the specification or design. As mentioned above, you can change your mind, and request a no hassle, 100% refund at any time if something changes.

 5) What if I don't like a product when it arrives?

Simply send it back within 30 days of receiving it for a 100% refund. All I ask is that you cover the cost of postage and please use registered mail so that the delivery can be confirmed.

 6) How big is your company?

I'm a hobbyist, just one guy, working under the brand name MBI (MatchBox Instruments).
I have partnered with various suppliers, labs and workshops to whom I contract a large part of the manufacturing.
Most of the R&D, QA, Packing, Checking and all other manner of things are done in my home during the late hours of the night.

 7) How can I contact you?

Please use the contact form

You can also email me (simply reply to your order confirmation email)
and you can usually contact me via the messaging system on CPF (candlepowerforums)

On any given day, I may receive a few mails with questions regarding products, timing, etc.
I'm usually able to reply within 24hrs (In many cases its within a few hours and if you catch me online, a few minutes).
Your feedback, good, spicy or otherwise is always appreciated.

 8) Where can I get product/status updates?

To see the current status of product development, please check the Development Status page for a fast overview of where things are, with any product.

From time to time, I send out email updates to my subscriber list (at the bottom of the Home page)
I post regular updates on CPF regarding development and status and some photo's every now and again on facebook too.

Please note that there tends to be a lot of chatter on CPF with many members posting their feedback so you may not always find what you are looking for but
please feel free to contact me anytime if you need any assistance with anything and I'll be extremely happy to answer any questions you may have.

9) Why aren't you a company?

Flashlights are both a hobby and passion to me.

My aim is to create unique and challenging products. I'm not concerned with and have no interest in "mass" sales purely for the sake of numbers or profit. I already have a business. This, is my hobby and I'd like to keep it that way (fun, creative, low pressure). That way I can maintain the freedom to create whatever products I wish to make, with no pressure to cut corners purely for the sake of profit.

10) What else should I know?

This is my first time to be working on the creation of physical products (as opposed to virtual products) and though I've been tinkering with electronics and mechanics most of my life, I'm still learning each day.
My goal and what drives me, beyond the creative process, is the satisfaction of seeing people enjoy a product that I have created.

Whilst I check everything (usually several times) before it goes out to you, please understand that because I'm one guy, often working until dawn, there is a small possibility that I may have missed something for whatever reason. In that case, I will do my utmost to get you what you need asap, and make things right for you.

I do like to think of myself as a good citizen of the world and I'm happy to accommodate your requests whenever possible.
If there's anything that causes you concern or is not clear, please contact me and I'll do whatever I can to help you because that is what I enjoy.

Thank you,
TGWNN

RAQ - Randomly Asked Questions (Other stuff I get asked)

1) What does TGWNN mean?

Tgwnn is an abbreviation for "the guy with no name".
That's my user handle (nickname) on the cpf forums. These days, I often sign my mails as just "Guy" which is a little more personal and less confusing for people.

2) Why did the chicken cross the road (the real reason)?

It was a dark night, and the chook was merely walking towards the light.
